I was recently sent a very generous trial pack from Avo Baby to test some of their products. In all transparency, the company were not aware of my profession when they provided me with the trial.

Firstly, a little information from the Avo Baby website regarding their products

pure natural nourishment with certified organic Australian avocado oil. Organic Avocado oil provides an abundance of natural nourishment to the skin, containing high amounts of natural proteins, antioxidants, omegas 3-6-9 and other essential nutrients including vitamins A, B and E, Lecithin and Potassium. The natural oil is quick to penetrate and absorb into the skin to soothe, protect and nourish.

The first thing I noticed when I opened the box was how nicely it is packaged. The outer packaging and the product themselves are attractive and well designed. I looked at the website for further information prior to trial and was surprised there is no mention if the oils are cold pressed, heat pressed or chemically extracted as I thought this would be a big selling point given, they react to the skin in different ways (cold pressed is best for infant massage).

After smelling and looking at the ingredients I decided not to trial the products on my toddler (20 months) given he has skin sensitivities and used them on the remainder of my family.

As an adult I really liked the fragrance of most of the products, but I know that products which are highly fragranced and contain essential oils, should not be used on babies under 12 months. Sadly, this is the target market for these products. This is disappointing as it would have been nice to recommend this product.

Here’s a run-down of what I tried….

Nourishing Everyday Lotion: a lovely fragrance and texture but it does remain oily on the skin after rubbed in and didn’t soak in. The following day my skin felt nice and soft. My partner didn’t like the smell left after the fragrance dissipated.

Gentle Hair & Body Wash: no tears, nice smell cleaned hair and body well leaving nice and soft.

Soothing Barrier Balm: I didn’t like the smell of this product. It was soft and easily spread and appears to work well.

Massage Oil: A subtle fragrance which absorbs quickly and a good dispenser which doesn’t pour out oil for less waste and mess.

If you are considering using Avo Baby Massage Oil, I would advise caution using this product as similar to Olive Oil, Avocado Oil contains oleic acid which when used in high levels on skin damages the skin barrier and can cause mild redness even when there is no history of sensitive skin.

Overall, I enjoyed this trial but was a little disappointed due to the ingredients that I couldn’t trial the products on the baby. I think the products are good for older children and adults rather than babies as advertised in the name. I would consider buying for myself not others in the future and would be cautious using the massage oil on a regular basis.
