Being a parent can sometimes feel like you’re putting everyone else first and yourself last. June 1st is the Global Day of Parents and I just want to remind you that while some sacrifices are inevitable, you need to look after your own wellbeing to support the ones you love.

It’s not always easy to find the time, so working as a team with your partner, or calling on close friends or family can help you to plan some time-out. This time can be used to get creative, read a book, go for a walk or simply catch up on some well-deserved sleep. Reaching out for a helping hand from those you trust can make the world of difference. If you don’t know anyone in your area, find a Mother’s Group or activity group you feel comfortable in and start making some new friends – children make it easier to meet new people!

And, if you do need some extra support, there are lots of useful suggestions and resources on the Beyond Blue Healthy Families site that can point you in the right direction: Helping yourself (beyondblue.org.au)

If you need time to yourself and you are located in the Blue Mountains, I can recommend the brilliant team at Blue Mountains Occasional Care (BMOC) who have child care minding in Blaxland, Lawson and Blackheath. Their prices are very reasonable and they are at each location one day a week so it may just give you the me time you need.
